Machines w/ Strange Symbols

First, go to the machine near the cannon. Press the button and write down each symbol on a clean sheet of paper as they appear on the screen.

At some point you will hear one that makes a funky noise, put down an X for that one.

Next, go to the one across from the mushroom and put the symbols in in the same order that you wrote down on your paper. When you get to the one that you put down an X for, listen for the funky sounding one and use that symbol in its place.

The door should open in front of you.
